What Is the Teen Patti Sequence?
Teen Patti is quite similar to poker, but instead of five cards, this game is played with three cards in hand. Other than that, you can make an argument that Teen Patti is a simplified version of the classic, five-card poker — they are both played with a 52-card deck, the cards are dealt to players face down, and the winner is the player that has the strongest hand or survives until the end.
Just like poker, the goal is to have the strongest hand. Teen Patti hands are also known as sequences, so a Teen Patti sequence is used to represent the strength of a hand in the game, with some sequences having a better chance to win.
Online casinos in India will often provide Teen Patti in different forms and variants, which can differ in rules a little. Still, the traditional 3 Patti is probably still the most popular variant of all, especially when it comes to live Teen Patti.
3 Patti Sequence List – Ranked from Worst to Best
While luck is certainly involved in Teen Patti, knowledge of the game, especially knowledge of 3 Patti sequences, can increase your chances of winning.
So, let’s take a better look at all possible Teen Patti hands and how they rank according to their strength, i.e. the Teen Patti hierarchy.
High Card
The first potential Teen Patti hand or sequence is a high card. Some might not even consider this to be a sequence since it involves three different cards, not connected in any way, but you can still win with a high card.
That being said, it is hard to win with just a high card, although it is easier to do it than it is in poker, for example. In any case, Ace is the highest card you can have, followed by Kings, Queens, Jacks, etc.
It is common for players to have the same high card, in which case the next highest card is looked at and takes the win. Once again, if the second-highest card is the same, then the third card is also considered and if that card is the same, the players will share the pot.
Best High Card Sequence: A, K, J of a different suit
Pair
If you have two of the same cards in your hand, that is a pair in Teen Patti and it is the second-worst sequence you can have. However, it is not that easy to get a pair, so you can definitely win if you have one.
Your chances of winning will be better if you have a higher pair. Obviously, a pair of aces is the best, again followed by Kings, Queens, and so on.
If two players have a pair, the higher pair wins. In the unlikely case that both players have the same pair, we go to the third card in the hand, the so-called kicker card, and the high card wins. However, if the players have the same kicker card, the pot is split between them.
Best Pair Sequence: A, A, K
Colour (Flush)
Teen Patti colour sequence is when you have all three cards in the same suit. The type of suit doesn’t matter since they are all ranked equally, but the difference maker if two players have a colour sequence is the high card.
So, the highest card wins, unless both players have the same high card, in which case the second card is considered and then the third. If all three cards are the same between two (or more) players, then the pot is shared between them.
While it is logical that the best colour sequence would be A, K, Q, that is a different Teen Patti sequence, the straight flush (pure sequence), which we will cover in more detail later. So, the actual best colour sequence is A, K, J.

Straight (Sequence)
Don’t be confused by the fact that a 3 Patti sequence of three cards in a different suit is called a sequence — you can also call this hand a straight, like in poker.
In any case, a straight is any three consecutive cards, but not of the same suit — that is again a pure sequence or straight flush, which is a much stronger Teen Patti hand.
However, depending on the Teen Patti variant, the strongest hand when it comes to straight or sequence can vary. For example, in traditional 3 Patti, the strongest sequence is A, 2, 3, after which comes the A, K, Q. Meanwhile, in some variants, the strongest sequence is the one with the highest card, i.e. the A, K, Q sequence.
Best Straight Sequence: A, 2, 3 of a different suit
Pure Sequence (Straight Flush)
What is known as a straight flush in poker is called a pure sequence in Teen Patti, which is a sequence of three consecutive cards of the same suit. This is one of the strongest hands that you can have, only behind a trio, or three same cards.
Just like with straight or sequence, the strongest pure sequence is different for traditional Teen Patti and modern variants.
So, the strongest pure sequence for traditional Teen Patti is A, 2, 3 in the same suit, followed by the highest card sequences like A, K, Q. On the other hand, the A, K, Q pure sequence is the strongest in some Teen Patti variations.
Best Pure Sequence: A, 2, 3 in the same suit
Trail (Trio)
The strongest 3 Patti sequence is a trail or trio, i.e. three same cards. This is another difference compared to poker where four of a kind is not the strongest hand you can have. In any case, getting a trio in Teen Patti is rare, so it’s clear why it is the strongest hand.
Of course, the higher the card, the better the hand, with three Aces being the strongest hand you can have in the game and the only hand that guarantees a Teen Patti win.
