Crazy luck struck eleven Kerala women on Wednesday during the official drawing of the Kerala Lottery. The women pooled together ₹250 to buy a ticket for the state’s lottery Monsoon Bumper and they ended up winning the jackpot worth a whopping ₹10 crore, which is equivalent to around 1,2 million US dollars.
Who Are the Women Who Won the Jackpot at Kerala Lottery?
The 11 women who had their lives changed overnight are members of Haritha Karma Sena in the Parappanangadi Municipality. While this wasn’t the first time they pooled money together to buy a lottery ticket, it was the first time they won something. Luckily for them, it was the main prize, the jackpot worth ₹10 crore!
According to the winners, some of them didn’t even carry the ₹25 they needed to buy the pool the money and buy the ticket, so they had to borrow the amount for acquaintances. Also, nine of the women contributed the full amount, while the other two participated with half, ₹12.50 each.
Deserving Winners of the Kerala Lottery Jackpot
The women who bought the winning ticket had a tough time making ends meet with their humble salary from the Haritha Karma Sena, which is the only income for most of their families. Haritha Karma Sena is a government project in Kerala and those who work there collect non-biodegradable waste from establishments and households for recycling.
Sheeja, who is the chairman of the Haritha Karma Sena consortium at Parappanangadi Municipality, said the most deserving people ended up being lucky this time. She said that all of the women that won the jackpot are hardworking and humble, fighting the harsh realities of life and that they deserved this luck that would help them solve some of their problems.
The Winners Will Continue Working for the Haritha Karma Sena
Despite winning the jackpot, the women say that they will continue with their vocation at Haritha Karma Sena, which has 57 members. They said that they won the prize as members of the collective and that they will continue to work together.
Most of the women have said that they will use this money to build houses, pay for the education of their children and to pay off their debts.
On Thursday, a large number of people came to the Parappanangadi Municipality to meet the winners of the Monsoon Bumper and congratulate them.
