The 2023 US Open is scheduled to start on Monday, 28th of August, and it will be a very interesting tournament filled with big-name players looking to compete for the trophy.

Which Indian Players Will Compete at the US Open?
While Indian tennis is not in great shape at the moment and not many players have been playing big roles at the Tour in the past few seasons, Indian tennis had some success at the US Open in the past.
After all, more than a few Indian players have won titles at Flushing Meadows, including Mahesh Bhupathi, Leander Paes, and Sania Mirza, although none of them managed to get to these heights in singles. Still, a title at a Major is a title, even in doubles, but Indian tennis hasn’t had any similar success recently.
This year, we only saw three Indian players (Ankita Raina, Karman Kaur Thandi, and Sumit Nagal) competing at the US Open qualifiers in singles and all of them were eliminated before reaching the main draw.
On the bright side, we will see some Indian players at the US Open in doubles. For example, Rohan Bopanna is seeded fifth in men’s doubles with his partner Matthew Ebden. We will also keep an eye on Yuki Bhambri, who will compete in men’s doubles with his partner Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner.
Who Are the Top Candidates to Win US Open in Singles?
When it comes to the most popular categories, men’s and women’s singles, the US Open favourites are some well-known names.
On the men’s side, the two major candidates to win the trophy are Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. The young Spaniard is the defending champion and he enters this tournament after winning the 2023 Wimbledon. In the final in London, he defeated the indestructible Serb, who will try again to get to his 24th Grand Slam title and fourth title in New York. Djokovic missed last year’s edition of the tournament and in 2021, he lost to Medvedev in the final, thus failing to complete a Calendar Grand Slam, i.e. to win all four Majors in one year.
Meanwhile, the situation is a bit more complicated on the women’s side, where there are many more favourites to go all the way. That being said, the top seed and the main favourite is the world’s number one Iga Swiatek, who is also the defending champion at Flushing Meadows. In addition to her, other top candidates to go all the way are Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Jessica Pegula.
